HMAS Cairns and 51 FNQR

Getting there

HMAS Cairns and the 51 Far North Queensland Regiment (FNQR) do not have LIA on site. LIA for both is provided at two off-base hotel style buildings, located approximately 3 km from HMAS Cairns and 14 km from 51 FNQR. Both sites are manned 24 hours/day.  Ensure you check your cabin confirmation for the building you are allocated to:
  • The Northern Heritage; is located at 243 Sheridan Street.
  • Las Palmas; is located at 275 Sheridan Street.

Key collection and returns

  • Key collection after 2pm.
  • Key collection and return to reception. 
  • Rooms are to be vacated by 10am.
  • Lost keys must be notified to reception immediately. A cost will be incurred for replacement.

Security arrangements

A valid Defence pass is required to gain access to the base and will be required at reception of both off site locations. Visiting Defence personnel should familiarise themselves with any additional security arrangements prior to arrival.   Non-ADO personnel occupying LIA are required to have base approval prior to arrival. This includes members of foreign forces, minors, non-ADO visitors.

Room/cabin information

Cabins are provisioned for stays up to 21 days with soap, toilet paper and towel (replenished and cabin cleaned every seven days). You will need to bring your own toiletries, towels and clean your own cabin for longer stays (excluding Duty officer, Recruit or Cadet Accommodation). For further information about your cabin, contact the base Accommodation Office.  It is essential that you are aware of your LIA obligations in accordance with PACMAN, Annex 7.3.A: Licence to Live In.

VIP cabins

DHA cannot take requests – contact E&IG/base POC – CMDR(E) above only.

Rationing and transport

Visiting groups requiring rationing at any of the base mess facilities or ground transport must submit an AE547 web form via the DRN at least 7 days prior to arrival. DHA is not able to arrange rations, transport or other base services.

Non-duty bookings

These bases do not accept non-duty bookings; contact with the Base Manager or XO for approval and allocation must be completed.

Mess fees

Mess fees are not collected by the local Mess Committee IAW COMSHORE Decision Brief dated 20 Aug 18.
