The Fort Wallace planning proposal was endorsed by Newcastle City Council on 26 March 2019. The NSW Minister for Planning gazetted the Planning Proposal in September 2019 and the amended Newcastle Local Environmental Plan took effect.
As DHA undertakes housing developments to support Defence operational requirements, the timing and strategy for delivery of any project is dependent on Defence’s operational requirements. These requirements are yet to be finalised in the Newcastle region, and as such, project timelines and strategy are yet to be determined.

Notification for Public Consultation under EPBC Act for the Fort Wallace Heritage Management Plan
The former Fort Wallace Defence site located in Stockton, NSW is a complex heritage site rich with natural and cultural values.
The site has been recognised as a place with natural and cultural value and has been included in the Commonwealth Heritage List (CHL) 2004.
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) prepared a draft replacement Heritage Management Plan for Fort Wallace. Under paragraph 341S(6)(b) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, Defence Housing Australia (DHA) welcomed comments on the draft replacement Heritage Management Plan from members of the public, Indigenous People with rights and interests to the place, key stakeholders and community groups by close of business, 9 November 2021.
