Leased property locations

To provide housing for Defence members and their families, DHA leases properties across Australia, within 30 kilometres of a serviced Defence base.

​Understanding where these bases are located is the first step in determining whether your property – or a property you are considering purchasing or building – may be suitable for a DHA lease.​

How DHA identifies suitable locations​

DHA leases properties in most states and territories, across capital cities and key regional centres where Defence members require housing.

When assessing the suitability of a property located within 30 kilometres of a serviced Defence base, DHA also considers:​

• Whether the area or suburb aligns with DHA’s current housing demand.​
• The property’s proximity to transport links, amenities and community infrastructure suitable for Defence families.​
• Whether the property meets the leased property requirements for the location.​

While many areas are positioned within 30 kilometres of a serviced Defence base, not all properties within this distance are accepted. DHA’s suitability assessment also considers the housing type and composition, current DHA property portfolio, Defence member needs and level of demand in the area.​

Priority locations​

While DHA leases properties across a broad range of locations, demand changes regularly based on Defence housing needs. This means some areas may currently have limited or no requirement, while others may be identified as priority locations based on higher demand.
