DHA begins Invictus Games countdown

As an official supporter of the Invictus Games 2018, Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has begun the countdown to the launch of the Sydney-based sporting competition.

As an official supporter of the Invictus Games 2018, Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has begun the countdown to the launch of the Sydney-based sporting competition. With just 17 days to go until the opening ceremony, DHA is proud to be associated with an event that champions our Defence community and all those who serve.

The Invictus Games is the world’s largest international sporting event that celebrates the achievements of wounded, injured and sick service personnel. Above all, it demonstrates the healing power of sport on their path to recovery.

DHA Managing Director, Jan Mason, said supporting servicemen and women throughout their Defence journey is a part of DHA’s ethos.

‘DHA is very proud to be an official supporter of the 2018 Invictus Games to be held in Sydney,’ said Ms Mason.

‘Our mission at DHA is to provide Defence members and their families with housing and related services and the opportunity to extend this support into other areas of Defence life is certainly exciting.’

His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex founded the games in 2014 after seeing first-hand the positive impact sport can have on the life-changing injuries, both visible and invisible, suffered by ex-servicemen and women.

The athletes will compete in 11 sports including athletics, swimming and basketball with rules and equipment adapted to better suit the competitor’s disabilities.

‘We consider all serving and ex-serving personnel to be part of the Defence family and being able to get behind these heroes is an honour,’ said Ms Mason.

The games will be held across Greater Sydney, including Sydney Olympic Park and around Sydney Harbour from 20–27 October and will host up to 500 military athletes from 18 nations.
