A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is a systematic assessment of the privacy impacts of a project or procurement activity and sets out recommendations for managing, minimising or eliminating any identified privacy impacts.
In accordance with the Privacy (Australian Government Agencies – Governance) APP Code 2017 (the Privacy Code), DHA conducts a PIA on all high privacy risk projects, that is, any project that DHA reasonably considers involves any new or changed ways of handling personal information that are likely to have a significant impact on the privacy of individuals. DHA must also publish a register of the PIAs we have conducted since 1 July 2018.
