Defence Housing Australia
Perth’s southern suburbs are fast becoming a hub for Navy operations. Accommodation is in short supply and DHA is on the hunt for homes to suit Defence families moving to the west.
The spotlight is on the Rockingham coastal strip, from Madora Bay and Secret Harbour in the south, east to Karnup and Baldivis, and as far north as Bibra Lake on Perth city’s doorstep.
These growing suburbs are within 30 kilometres of Australia's largest Navy fleet base, at HMAS Stirling, on Garden Island. The base services all Navy ships, submarines and aircraft in Western Australia, including British and American vessels visiting under the AUKUS flag.
Across the island Causeway, on the mainland, is the bustling City of Rockingham. A favourite playground for families, the city’s picturesque foreshore has long been a mecca for summer picnics, and a place to enjoy swimming, fishing and sailing in the sheltered blue waters of Cockburn Sound.
Stretching north are the burgeoning maritime and resource employment centres at Kwinana and Henderson. To the west and south lies the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, breeding ground for tiny penguins and rare Australian sea lions, and a popular eco-destination for diving, snorkelling and wildlife watching.
Rockingham is a thriving township offering a big choice in shopping, education and healthcare facilities, efficient public transport, and colourful cafes, bars and eateries.
Compared with Perth city, just 40 kilometres north via rail or freeway, the Rockingham region offers more affordable choices in real estate.
Home buyers and investors have been quick to take advantage and house prices have grown at almost twice the rate of the Perth average over the past five years, with a 25% hike in the past 12 months, according to the Real Estate Institute of WA[1].
Many new suburbs are springing up on the Rockingham fringe, with generous blocks of land available to build a new investment property, giving you the opportunity to generate income and equity now, while building a nest egg for the future.
Ideal homes for Defence families include quality three- and four-bedroom houses with two bathrooms, separate living areas, lock-up garaging, pet friendly yards, heating, cooling and security. DHA is also interested in leasing units and townhouses to give Defence members a real lifestyle choice.
