After handback

After handback

After the handback of your property, there are a few things you may wish to follow-up.

Water reimbursements

Should you receive a water bill following the return of the property, in accordance with your DHA Lease Agreement, you may be eligible for a water consumption reimbursement up until the date of the handback date or lease expiry, provided it is within 18 months of the receipt of the account.

Once you have paid the account, you can scan and upload all pages of the bill including a copy of the receipt of payment. This can be emailed to accountspayable@dha.gov.au.

You will be reimbursed to your nominated bank account.

Update your details

If you have utilised our bill-paying service, you should update your contact details and forwarding address for your accounts with the applicable vendors (insurer, council rates and taxes, strata fees, water utility etc.) to ensure there is no interruption to receiving correspondence.

Lease registration and caveats

Where the DHA lease was registered on the Title Deed of the property, it will remain until either; the lease expiry date passes, or a Surrender of Lease or Withdrawal of Caveat document is registered with the local state or territory Land Titles Office.

If you would like a surrender of lease or caveat, you must contact the local state or territory Land Titles Office in which the property is located to obtain the necessary documentation. If any fees and charges are associated, this will be your responsibility as per the DHA Lease Agreement.

If you have any questions regarding the property handback process, please email lessormanagement@dha.gov.au or call 139 342 between 8.30am to 5pm (AEST).
