About Mount Lofty
Located in the Toowoomba suburb of Mount Lofty, a 50 lot residential community was proposed on a small portion of the 379 hectare former rifle range site. The site is located in an elevated position on the edge of the ranges, with a rural outlook to the North-East, and features an historical 100-year-old Moreton Bay Fig tree, planted by L/Sgt Eric French who served in WW1. The site is well serviced in terms of amenities such as parks, shopping facilities, public and private schools and entertainment.
The development application complied with all applicable bushfire legislation and standards, would have had minimal impact on existing infrastructure, and importantly minimised impact on wildlife habitat. A large balance parcel of land was proposed to be transferred to Toowoomba Regional Council for the extension of Jubilee Park.
The Development Application was lodged in April 2020, and the DA was recommended for approval by council officers. However, at a special meeting of council on 16 September 2020, councillors voted against approving the DA. DHA continues to work closely with council regarding possible plans for the future of the site.
