About Canterfield
Located in the Ipswich suburb of Raceview, this development has seen a former racehorse training circuit redeveloped into a residential community.
The development includes 80 land lots, ranging in size from 320sqm to 600sqm. Some 74 lots have been retained on which DHA has built new homes for Defence members and their families, with the remaining 4 land lots being sold to the public in 2017. The DHA housing is a mix of three and four-bedroom houses of single and double storeys, all built to a six-star energy rating (NatHERS).
The name 'Canterfield' has both local and military significance. During the Second World War, RAAF Base Amberley was commonly referred to as 'Amberley Field'. The term 'Canter' – the controlled three-beat gait of a horse – was combined with the word 'field' as a nod to the equestrian history of the site.
