Stephen started his career with DHA as a Property Manager in Canberra before relocating to the Brisbane Regional Office as Property and Tenancy Manager. After acting in various Regional Director and national leasing roles, Stephen made the move to National Operations Manager—Leasing in 2016.
Highly respected by his co-workers, Stephen has been praised for his natural leadership style and invaluable support on complex leasing and P&T cases, providing both sound guidance and understanding. His ability to provide exceptional customer service with empathy and conviction has been integral to the leasing team becoming a successful and valuable provider within DHA.
Stephen said while winning Employee of the Year was extremely humbling, he would be accepting the award on behalf of the leasing team and colleagues who have supported him over the years.
‘It has never been a driving factor to win an award or recognition for the work I do, I get up and attend work every day, doing my best to deliver DHA’s objectives,’ said Stephen. ‘The quote that reminds me of my award is—The way to achieve your own success is to be willing to help somebody else get it first’.
In his seven years at DHA, and most predominantly in his role as Property Manager working closely with Defence members, Stephen says he has gained a huge amount of respect and admiration for the Defence community and the service they undertake to protect Australia.
‘The most rewarding part of my role is knowing that in some small way, I and DHA as an organisation assist in providing housing to the families of the Australia Defence Force to allow them to focus on protecting Australia at home and abroad.’
DHA’s annual awards night was recently held at the Officer’s Mess, Duntroon House, Royal Military College. DHA Managing Director Jan Mason was joined by the Director General Personnel-Army, Brigadier Leigh Wilton, and the Deputy Secretary of Estate and Infrastructure, Steve Grzeskowiak to recognise staff who achieved extraordinary accomplishments over the past financial year.
