16 October 2017 Topping out sees Liv Apartments closer to finish line

Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) landmark Fremantle development, Liv Apartments, has reached the ceremonial ‘topping out’[1] stage of the construction process.

Project builder, Georgiou Group, has poured the last concrete on the 22 metre structure which will include 1,300 square metres of commercial space as well as landscaped courtyards and public open spaces. Around one third of the apartments will provide housing for Australian Defence Force (ADF) families stationed in Perth, with the balance being offered for sale to private owners and investors.

‘This important milestone leads us closer to realising the vision behind Liv Apartments and its contribution to Fremantle’s exciting future,’ DHA Managing Director, Jan Mason said.

According to the City of Fremantle’s forecasting data[2], by 2021 there will be 11,094 residents in the central city, which is 1,977 more than in 2016. Liv Apartments will be home to approximately 220 of these future residents.

‘Our aim from the very beginning was for Liv Apartments to be a positive and progressive part of Fremantle’s community,’ Ms Mason said.

‘In addition to employing local builders and tradespeople to boost the local economy, we have ensured Liv Apartments blends into the East End community while remaining environmentally-aware.’

The development features edible gardens and a shared residents’ garden, louvred windows for sun protection, solar panels, reduced waste by design, sub metering of utilities and water efficiency measures.

As a result of the environmentally sustainable design, Liv has achieved a 4 star Green Star equivalent rating, 7.5 star NatHERS (Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme) average rating, and is on track for a One Planet Community rating.

Work on the interiors of the 166 one, two and three-bedroom apartments has commenced and will feature quality finishes throughout. Liv Apartments is expected to be completed in August 2018.
