07 February 2017 Wirraway sizzles as new residents welcomed

Development in the lower Hunter continues to flourish, with one of the region’s up-and-coming communities, Wirraway in Thornton, welcoming new residents over the weekend at its annual community barbeque.

Despite the sweltering heat the community event saw some of the first families to call Wirraway home come together in true neighbourhood spirit to enjoy a barbeque lunch, while the kids were kept entertained with a jumping castle and face painting.

‘Building a community is more than bricks and mortar – we want to establish a place where residents know their neighbours and kids play together outside in the parks,’ said Gully Coote, DHA Development Manager.

With half the housing in stage two complete and works now starting on stage three, Wirraway is proving popular with both families and first home buyers alike.

‘The majority of purchasers in Wirraway are owner occupiers who want the flexibility and the freedom to build a home that allows space for their families to grow, in a community where they feel safe and are proud to call home’, Gully said.

Wirraway is conveniently located near community facilities, shopping centres and schools and well-serviced by public transport. Future locals will be able to cycle the shared pathways, workout at the fitness stations and enjoy the aviation-themed play equipment and half-sized basketball court. The wider area is experiencing rapid growth, with over $6.5 billion currently being invested in new regional infrastructure including in health, education and social services.

When completed the Wirraway community will be home to more than 500 families. Half the lots will be used to provide attractive, modern homes for Australian Defence Force members and their families, while the remainder will be sold to the private market.

After a sold-out stage one, the second stage has now been released. To find out more call 1800 891 958.
