Award-winning developer, Defence Housing Australia (DHA), today celebrated the completion of a new Defence residential housing development at Enoggera, adjacent to Gallipoli Barracks.
The completion of 44 townhouses for Defence members and their families was officially marked with a celebration attended by Major General Adrian Clunies-Ross, AO, MBE (Ret’d), after whom the development was named.
The ceremony was officiated by DHA Chairman, the Hon. J.A.L. (Sandy) Macdonald.
DHA’s Acting Managing Director, Ms Jan Mason, and Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Slaughter joined Mr Macdonald and Major General Clunies-Ross in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
‘We recognise the significance of Gallipoli Barracks and DHA is proud to have contributed to the welfare of Defence members and their families who are based here,’ Ms Mason said.
‘These new townhouses will provide a premium standard of accommodation for many years to come and are a great example of the award-winning work being undertaken by DHA around Australia.’
The development at 260 Wardell Street, Enoggera, on the corner of Lloyd Street, replaces 22 dilapidated red brick townhouses which were deemed non-compliant for Defence residency.
Construction officially started on the 1.3 hectare site on 28 May, 2015, and has been completed on time by DHA’s construction contractor, Hindmarsh, a leading national property and construction company.
Clunies-Ross is a key strategic development, being adjacent to the Gallipoli Barracks in Enoggera. It will be retained by DHA for the exclusive use of Defence members and their families.
Townhouses in the development average 145sqm in size, each with three bedrooms, two bathrooms plus powder room, double or tandem garages, and private outdoor spaces.
The townhouses exceed standard Defence housing requirements, featuring 2.7m ceilings, ample storage, 1.2m wide plumbed fridge spaces, Crimsafe screens on all doors and windows, and passive CCV surveillance for added security.
They have been built to achieve EnviroDevelopment certification from the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) across a range of sustainability criteria.
The development is named after Major General Adrian Clunies-Ross, AO, MBE (Ret’d), who had a distinguished military career, including service in 1962 with AATTV (Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam) in South Vietnam. This unit fought shoulder-to-shoulder with the Vietnamese army and became the most decorated unit of the Vietnam War.
