13 September 2016 DHA gets green light for Alexandria project

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has been given the green light from the City of Sydney for a $60 million residential development in Alexandria, with construction set to commence early next year.

Located on a prominent 5,600 square metre site at 18 Huntley Street, the 152-apartment project has been named Arkadia and will be launched to the market in October by Colliers International.

DKO with Breathe Architecture won a design excellence competition for the innovative plan, with the building to be constructed predominantly in brick in line with the site’s history (a former brickworks).

Arkadia will feature apartments over six levels and parking for 124 cars, ten motorcycles and 176 bicycles. Resident facilities will include a communal music room, pocket parks and expansive communal rooftop gardens. The development will be constructed on the principles of sustainable design, while maximising ease of living and creating a sense of community.

A retail space of approximately 60 square metres will be incorporated on the ground floor.

DHA Acting Managing Director, Jan Mason, said Arkadia would be a stylish and exciting addition to the Alexandria precinct.

“Alexandria has quickly become one of Sydney’s most interesting places to live,” Ms Mason said.

“It is a thriving and artistic inner-urban community and Arkadia will become an intrinsic part of that.”
