01 September 2014 NT construction projects take out Master Builders awards

Two Defence Housing Australia (DHA) projects in the Northern Territory (NT) have taken out awards in the Master Builders Northern Territory Excellence Awards last week. The projects, which were both completed by local construction company PTM Group Pty Ltd, are evidence of the innovative work DHA is doing in the Top End.

The first award, which was in the category of medium density project over five dwellings, was awarded to DHA’s Breezes Muirhead development. DHA engaged PTM Group to build nine new houses in the development.

The architecturally designed homes feature modern, innovative floor plans and street facades which suit Darwin’s tropical climate and comply with Breezes’ design guidelines.

“In the Northern Territory we have set a new standard for tropical housing,” DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said.

“Our Breezes’ residential development has been designed with wide-fronted staggered lots, natural breezeways, roof ventilation and plenty of outdoor living space to allow families to truly enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that Darwin is renowned for.”

The second award, which was in the category of alterations, additions and renovations over $500,000, was awarded for the upgrade of 11 elevated homes at the Larrakeyah Army Barracks.

DHA engaged PTM Group to upgrade the homes to provide a garage and ensuite extensions, internal refurbishment and external landscaping.

This event is the highlight of the construction calendar and recognises excellence in building and construction, from the smallest renovation to the largest commercial project in the NT.
