16 January 2020 Successful tenderer announced for Gungahlin move

Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester today announced an important new progression in the movement of Defence Housing Australia (DHA) to its new Gungahlin home.

G1 DHA Pty Ltd has been revealed as the successful tenderer for the project which will see the construction and fit-out of office accommodation to meet DHA’s needs. The organisation is an entity jointly owned by the Kmc Group Pty Ltd and the Lockbridge Pty Ltd.

'I am pleased announce that after a competitive tender process the movement of DHA to Gungahlin is one step closer with the successful tenderer now engaged to construct and fit-out the office accommodation,' Mr Chester said.

'The new office will be located in the Gungahlin Town Centre on the site bounded by Hibberson, Hinder, Kate Crace and Efkarpidis Streets, which is within the main shopping and entertainment precincts of Gungahlin.'

The Deed of Agreement for Lease was executed earlier this month, with DHA entering into a lease for a term of 15 years (with two optional five year terms) to start March 2022.

'Construction works will start in August 2020, the fit-out in August 2021 with practical completion to be achieved by March 2022,' Mr Chester said.

'The building will also hold a 5-star NABERS rating, further enforcing our commitment to sustainability within the public sector.'

The office will accommodate 300 DHA employees currently dispersed across two sites in Barton and Fyshwick. The fit-out aims to reflect the core principles of activity based working and provide an environment that is flexible and supports collaboration.
