14 September 2018 Liv comes alive

Defence Housing Australia’s contemporary Liv Apartments complex was officially unveiled today, offering exciting new options for Western Australians seeking a convenient and modern lifestyle, while minimising their footprint on the planet.

Located in the vibrant east side of Fremantle, Liv is redefining what it means to live sustainably in an urban environment.

Surrounded by a thriving arts and entertainment precinct, Liv is the largest development project in WA to receive One Planet Living accreditation; acknowledging its commitment to environmental, financial and lifestyle sustainability in all facets of design and construction.

DHA Chairman, the Hon J.A.L (Sandy) Macdonald welcomed guests at today’s launch and highlighted Liv’s role in setting new standards in modern, high-density living options for Defence members and the wider community.

‘DHA is constantly evolving our business to meet the changing needs of serving Australian Defence members and their families—delivering diverse housing solutions that offer practicality, security and peace of mind,’ said Mr Macdonald.

‘As an award-winning developer, DHA is committed to building vibrant and exciting sustainable communities … and Liv Freo certainly meets the brief!

‘DHA is proud to deliver this state-of-the-art urban residential development, which offers maximum lifestyle benefits, while providing cost-effective energy solutions for our investors, Defence members and all those who choose to call Liv home.’

Liv Fremantle is DHA’s first apartment project in WA and our second biggest in Australia. The complex offers one, two and three-bedroom apartment designs that optimise space and affordability, yet exude individuality, quality and an ambience associated with an up-market lifestyle.

Sales to the public have been very encouraging to date and new residents, including Defence members, are due to take occupancy throughout September and October.
DHA’s construction partners Georgiou played a key role in delivering the project on time, on budget and in line with Defence’s service agreement specifications.

‘The Liv apartment’s development has been a great project for Georgiou whereby we’ve showcased our ability to deliver a high quality product within timeframe and to the client’s standards,’ said Georgiou CEO, Rob Monaci.

‘We’re extremely proud to have worked with DHA, NS Projects, HASSELL Architects and Wood and Grieve Engineers to deliver this iconic project in the heart of Fremantle.’

A highlight of the launch was the unveiling of acclaimed local artist Rick Vermey’s dynamic public art installation, which is set to become a local Freo icon.

Commissioned as part of the City of Fremantle Percent for Art scheme (which specifies that local developers contribute to the city’s public art), the installation features a striking geometric design with a distinctly ‘Freo feel’.

The tunnel-like structure is visible from the Queen Victoria and Quarry Street entrances and illuminated from within - creating a vibrant space for Liv’s residents and the wider Fremantle community to enjoy, particularly as an after-dark attraction.

In line with Liv Apartment’s prestigious One Planet Living accreditation, the installation also meets a range of important sustainability criteria, including the use of natural wood fibres and bio-renewable cladding material.
