Located at award-winning residential development, Breezes Muirhead, the dog park is a joint project between Defence Housing Australia (DHA) and the City of Darwin.
The first recreational park of its kind features 3,000m2 of open green space split into two areas: a dog training and exercise area, as well as an off-leash area.
Featuring four different obstacles intended for dog exercise and agility training, the park offers residents a safe and engaging space to enjoy time with their pets.
DHA Regional Director, Ruth Lantzke, said the park was designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and social interactions among residents.
‘DHA doesn’t just build houses, we build sustainable communities that bring Australian Defence Force members and new home owners together,’ Ruth said.
‘We have partnered with the City of Darwin Council to bring Breezes Muirhead residents a masterplanned community with features like this dog park to support the unique NT lifestyle.’
Lord Mayor Fong Lim said the Council was delighted to partner with DHA to deliver the city’s first dedicated dog park.
‘The dog park will create a safe environment for dogs to play off-leash and will encourage owners to exercise their dogs, which can reduce nuisance and anti-social behaviour,’ the Lord Mayor said.
‘Residents from neighbouring suburbs are welcome to enjoy the park responsibly.
‘This new facility is another fantastic community element which provides the opportunity for residents to mingle, and is part of the Council’s vision to create a more connected community.’
The Breezes Muirhead dog park features undercover shelters, doggy bag dispensers and water taps to ensure time spent at the park is comfortable for both pet owners and dogs.
A series of free dog behavioural training sessions will be offered with professional trainer Hannah Ruess from Pawsitive K9 Behaviour.
