Local family-owned company Palumbo Pty Ltd has been selected by Defence Housing Australia (DHA) to build The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide—the first residential project in Australia to achieve a 6 Star Green Star design rating, an achievement that signifies world leadership in sustainability.
Architecturally-designed by global charity The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community, the Terrace combines the best of traditional Australian design with the comforts of contemporary living. The design builds on the history of terraced homes but brings them into the future with the inclusion of environmentally friendly design elements.
No strangers to innovation, the Palumbo brothers are committed to cutting-edge development, pioneering many environmental initiatives across commercial and residential projects throughout Adelaide.
‘The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide is setting the benchmark in environmentally sustainable design to create homes that are both ultra-energy efficient and highly liveable,’ Palumbo Constructions Managing Director, Daniel Palumbo said.
Keeping this high-flying project strongly connected to the local Adelaide community, The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide will provide employment for approximately 230 people from the beginning of the project until the end.
The ground-breaking terrace is a collaboration between The Prince’s Foundation, The Prince’s Charities Australia, DHA and Renewal SA, who share a vision to promote sustainability in residential development.
‘We want to leave a positive legacy for both the community and the environment. From the bricks used to build the Terrace, through to the hands that lay them—we’re supporting the local community,’ DHA Acting Managing Director, Jan Mason said.
‘There is a strong emphasis on local, low carbon materials, including locally made concrete with a recycled fly ash content, local granite, and bricks from the original Bowden industrial buildings.’
This state-of-the-art project will demonstrate the benefit of well-located and sustainable living, with a vision to not only influence future projects, but to become a benchmark for residential development in Australia.
The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide is located in the revitalised urban precinct of Bowden. Backed by Renewal SA, this exciting new community is leading the nation in both design excellence and sustainability. The project was officially launched by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, President of the Prince’s Foundation, in November last year and is due to break ground this month.
