Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has once again proven its standing as one of Australia’s premier residential developers, winning three awards at the annual Master Builders NT (MBANT), Excellence in Building and Construction (EBC) Awards. The Black Tie Gala dinner, held on Friday 21 August on the lawns of the Skycity Casino at Mindil Beach in Darwin, was attended by 700 industry members.
Executive Director of MBANT, Dave Malone commented ‘The event provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the tremendous projects that our industry can deliver and to also recognise the very best of those with annual awards.’ The winners of these EBC awards also have the opportunity to be thrown into the National spotlight by progressing into the National Master Builders Awards.
Under the section ‘Alterations, additions and renovations,’ DHA took out top honours for:
- Best Medium Density for Breezes Muirhead (PTM Group)
PTM Group designed and constructed 38 new houses for DHA as a part of the 77 individually design dwellings at Breezes Muirhead in Darwin. Breezes is an award-winning masterplanned community that will feature 1,150 residences on completion. Each house is oriented and designed to capture and funnel seasonal breezes, reducing the reliance on air-conditioning.
‘We could not undertake the works that we do without the valuable partnerships that we have formed with builders like PTM,’ said Breezes Muirhead Development Manager, Jaryd Collins.
- Best upgrade – over $500,000 for RAAF Tindal (PTM Group)
In an effort to upgrade the current dwellings found at the RAAF Tindal base, DHA engaged PTM Group to renovate nine, two story homes which, among many other elements included a living and ensuite extension.
- Best upgrade $350-500K for Larrakeyah (Greenspace Homes)
As a part of a contract with Greenspace Homes, 3 Hurst Walk is one of seven dwellings at Larrakeyah Barracks in Darwin, to refurbish and extend. Sitting in a village precinct with tropical design features, Greenspace Homes exceeded expectations in their upgraded of the house to meet specific Defence requirements.
