Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is moving into the Rasmussen community and recently held a Twilight in the Park event to introduce itself to its new neighbours.
“DHA has always called Townsville home, but in the coming months we’re going to start work on our biggest residential development ever in the city,” DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said. “So, it’s time in introduce ourselves to our neighbours and show them that DHA wants to be a part of the community here in Townsville.”
The event, which was held at the picturesque Riverway Park, catered to the whole family with a jumping castle, snow cones, cupcakes, a barbeque and a chance to throw a football around with local sporting stars, the North Queensland Cowboys. More than 200 people attended the event including Defence families, investors and locals from the surrounding neighbourhood.
“It was a great afternoon of family fun, and was a great opportunity for anyone who wanted to know more about DHA to speak to us personally over a sausage sandwich just like real neighbours do!” DHA Managing Director, Peter Howman said.
The Rasmussen development, named Bluewattle after the abundance of butterflies in the area, will be a masterplanned, sustainable community and the first DHA development of its scale in the garrison city.
“The development underpins two of DHA’s core objectives: to build communities - not just houses, and to be at the forefront of innovative building design,” DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said.
“At DHA we create sustainable neighbourhoods for Defence members, their families and the greater community. Our new homes are designed specifically for the climate in which they are located, and are built to achieve a minimum six-star Energy Efficiency Rating.”
Civil construction for the first stage has already commenced and construction of the first DHA houses is due for completion in 2015.
