The DHA pin wall is back

by Meera Keogh | Oct 23, 2018
Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) popular pin wall is back as one of two interactive activities for the 2018 Invictus Games Sydney, awaiting a new wave of visitors and creative poses.

The structure, a giant house-shaped pin wall, invites visitors to make a life-size 3D body impression before posing for a photo with their likeness.

The pin wall is a life-size replica of the innovative pinscreen toy created by renowned US contemporary artist, Ward Fleming in 1987. The pinscreen consists of a surface made by a crowded array of pins that are free to slide independently to create a three-dimensional relief.

DHA Managing Director, Jan Mason said the activities were a gesture of support to the more than 18,000 families who call DHA housing their home.

‘The pin waIl conveys DHA’s support of Defence families across Australia in providing homes for the families of the service men and women that protect our country,’ said Ms Mason.

‘It is very fitting that it will be on show at the Invictus Games, where Defence families from around the globe can make a unique family portrait as a memento of their time at this world-renowned event.’

The pin wall will be located outside the Quay Centre and is fully accessible. Visitors are encouraged to upload their photos with the hashtag #PINVICTUS.

DHA will also host a Defence-related kid’s activation point at Invictus Games House, the showground dome of Sydney Olympic Park. The DHA Kids Zone will provide entertainment to cater to a variety of ages, giving parents some time out to enjoy a meal in the dining hall as well as the chance to meet Rex D. Dog.

The Invictus Games is the world’s largest international sporting event that celebrates the achievements of wounded, injured and sick service personnel. Founded by His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, the games will be held in Sydney from 20-27 October and host up to 500 military athletes from 18 nations.
