First sod turned on new Defence homes in Brisbane

On Monday 2 November, Ms Yvette D’Ath, Member for Petrie, turned the first sod on a construction site in the Brisbane suburb of Everton Park, where 32 Defence townhouses will be built as part of the Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan.

Construction of the three-bedroom townhouses will begin within the next few weeks, and the houses will be provided to Defence members and their families posted to the Brisbane region.

“The townhouses being built here at Everton Park will allow more Defence families to live in Defence provided housing instead of Brisbane’s private rental market,” Ms D’Ath said.

“This construction is injecting over $32 million into Brisbane’s economy and will create jobs for our local subcontractors, apprentices and suppliers.”

More than 15 Defence houses, funded by the Nation Building plan, have been completed in Brisbane so far, and Defence families have been moving into these homes since May.
