The first six contracts for the construction of 58 new Defence houses in Darwin as part of the Australian Government' Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan have now been signed.

The signing of these contracts marks the start of a $76.2 million investment in 185 new houses in Darwin over the next two years.

Construction will begin in the next few weeks with the first houses to be completed in December 2009.

Following the contract signing, the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP, turned the first sod at the construction site, assisted by the Federal Member for Solomon, Damian Hale.
