No tenants or families injured in storm - affected coastal NSW
Despite a major storm that hit coastal NSW over the long weekend, no tenants or their families were injured as a result of the storm. To date seven families have been moved into temporary accommodation (five in the Hunter and two in Sydney), although this number may rise depending on the scope of the work to rectify the water damage and the time to dry out the house before we can replace floor coverings etc.
As at today the number of houses with major problems arising from the storm stands at 36, the distribution is as follows:
Hunter
- Flood waters entering house - 13
- Roof leaks - 11
- Retaining walls and fences collapsed - 9 (mostly in Clarence Jeffries VC estate in Adamstown).
Sydney
- Flood waters entering house - 1
- Roof leaks - 2
In terms of other damage to our houses in the region, there are a number of properties with minor water leaks, trees knocked down (not onto the house), and fencing knocked down. These homes are being attended to progressively as priority is being given to the properties with significant issues.
All Lessors affected by the storm have been contacted and we are working in a cooperative spirit with them and their insurers to have remedial work completed as soon as possible.
We are still getting the occasional report from tenants about storm damage but the numbers are such that we are able to react immediately in each case. The wet weather forecast for the remainder of this week is likely to hamper the rectification effort. All houses have now been made safe so further rain should not cause additional damage.
