Changes in personal circumstances
Changes in your personal and living circumstances will affect your subsidised housing entitlement.
For Rent Allowance (RA), Defence Policy outlined in the PACMAN, Chapter 7, informs members that an annual review must be conducted by DHA. You can expect to receive a review statement which you are required to complete, and you will need to provide a current rent receipt to establish that no changes to your domestic status have occurred that will affect your RA subsidy.
For Service Residences your housing entitlement may be affected by:
- a break down of marriage;
- a change to categorisation;
- special needs recognition; or
- an increase in dependants.
For all subsidised housing, you are required by Defence to inform DHA in writing, as soon as possible, if a change occurs in your domestic circumstances.
Examples of when you need to notify us include:
- a change of categorisation;
- marriage;
- a de facto relationship is approved by Defence;
- a child is born;
- a breakdown of marriage occurs;
- a change of sharing arrangements;
- you purchase an Own Home in your posting locality;
- special needs recognition; and
- promotion/demotion.
If a change occurs in your domestic circumstances you are required to inform DHA in writing, as soon as possible.

Refer to the Defence Pay and Conditions Manual (PACMAN) for details on your entitlements.
