Information about Sale

Sale is one of the regional centres of East Gippsland in Victoria. Only a two hour drive from Melbourne, Sale is situated in perhaps one of the most beautiful areas of the state.

Gippsland is famed for its 12 National Parks, marine parks, reserves and has scenery ranging from coastlines to forests and mountains.

Sale, with a population of nearly 14,000 is the administrative hub of the shire of Wellington. The shire encompasses towns from the Great Dividing Range and the High Country down to grazing lands, beaches, wetlands and the Bass Strait.

Due to the small size of Sale, public transport consists of two buses per day through the town to the shopping centres. Coach and train services are available to travel further a field. DHA manages just over 160 properties in Sale, through a mix of on-base and off-base housing though the majority of homes are located in the town itself. Nearly all houses are 5km or less away from the base, meaning that it is only a short walk or bicycle ride to work.

It is said that Sale's climate is characterised as Mediterranean with lower rainfalls than the rest of Gippsland. As the region experiences all four seasons and is particularly cold in winter, heating is provided in all DHA-managed houses, all homes have either natural gas heating or central heating.
