Online saving builds following

Savvy savers looking for sweeteners are being rewarded with incentives by online savings accounts.

However, it pays to do your homework because there can be conditions attached.

RateCity chief executive Damian Smith says online savings accounts are soaking up a larger proportion of people's money, 'simply because of the online access which allows people to move money in and out pretty easily.'

'Once upon a time, to get a high-interest account you had to go to a branch and deposit it in person,' Smith says.

Today, with the click of a mouse, no paperwork, and for some institutions not even a phone call, customers can set up an online savings account.
