Home energy efficiency study
Around 300 families living in Defence housing have been invited to participate in a study to evaluate the energy usage in their homes.
The study, run through the CSIRO, will help families understand how energy is used to heat and cool their home.
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has partnered with the CSIRO to provide some of our Defence members with the opportunity to participate.
The families invited to participate were selected based on strict criteria around the house’s age and location. DHA contacted all of the members living in eligible homes in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. CSIRO is now working directly with the volunteers who have agreed to participate in the evaluations.
Each evaluation runs for 12 months and includes reviews of energy usage, bills, home energy ratings and floorplans. Participants will have monitors installed which will continuously record the inside temperature of their home.
Participants will gain unique insight into the way they use energy in their home and by understanding this they will learn how to reduce energy usage, and potentially, their bills.
