The final milestone for Lyons

Tuesday 28 June 2011 marked the final milestone in the five year development project of Lyons, a Northern suburb of Darwin.

In March 2006 DHA embarked on a construction project to create the new suburb. Almost 700 houses were planned for the development with DHA retaining 345 of those for the growing Defence population in the Top End.

A major milestone in the development came last March when DHA unveiled the demonstration tropical house. A lot of valuable lessons came from the construction of this house and many of its sustainable and climatic features heavily influenced the housing designs in the final stages of construction in Lyons.

The suburb was coordinated over a 12 stage process in conjunction with a number of builders including PTM Group, Gusher, Darwin Constructions and Larrakia Homes.

DHA is now turning its focus to the adjoining suburb of Muirhead where construction works will begin later this year.
