What's important to us
As a Government Business Enterprise, we're serious about what it is that we want to achieve and how we go about achieving it. Our vision is to provide excellence in Defence housing and relocation services. Our mission is to deliver total housing and relocation services that meet Defence operational and client needs through a strong customer and business focus.
The way in which we go about our business is just as important as the outcomes. For that reason, the behaviour of DHA staff members is modelled on the following key values:
- Respect - we collaborate, are ready to listen and learn, and show respect for each other, our customers, stakeholders and the community;
- Excellence - our goals are achieved with a commitment to quality and professionalism in all aspects of our work - with a customer and commercial focus;
- Integrity - we have moral courage - backed by trust for each other, honesty, responsibility, and accountability for our actions;
- Enthusiasm - pride and empowerment come from our passion and commitment; and
- Innovation - we initiate and embrace new and better ways of working and improving our business.
Keeping safe and healthy
We believe the best way to show our commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for our staff is through programs such as:
- Employee Assistance;
- Annual flu shots;
- Access to Defence Health insurance membership;
- Training and regular safety audits;
- Quit smoking assistance program;
- Workstation assessments; and
- Contributions to eye sight testing and prescription lenses.
Valuing our differences
The diversity of our staff is one of the great strengths of DHA. By managing diversity well, we believe we create an inclusive environment that values and utilises the contributions of people of different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
Our involvement in the community
Every year DHA provides funding for a community relations sponsorship program. During 2007-08, DHA gave its support to numerous community initiatives including Defence Families Australia, DCO Family Days, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Legacy and Construction industry awards.
DHA and the Environment
The principles of ecologically sustainable development have been incorporated into the decision making systems and processes of DHA, from paper recycling and energy efficient equipment and practices in our offices, through to water saving measures, energy efficient measures and passive solar performance in our homes and gardens. Independent studies are also undertaken with DHA's major construction projects to assess the existence of any statutory planning, environmental or heritage issues.
